The Challenge

Think was engaged to assist a government medical research organization that was having trouble implementing projects. The client needed someone to assess their approach to project management. Their large organization had experienced a significant amount of change that included a reorganization, new staff and the introduction of a new project management methodology.

The Solution

Think conducted a thorough maturity assessment of the medical research organization, analyzing 20 specific characteristics of the client’s project management approach. Think then incorporated a cultural assessment, which helped executive leadership understand the culture’s impact on organizational performance. As part of the assessment, Think worked with the client to develop solutions that would yield the most effective and significant improvements in a few specific areas. A project plan was produced that incorporated clear timelines for each set of required development and integration tasks, as well as providing a resource plan showing the work.

The Results

Think identified 6 key initiatives that the medical research organization needed to focus on through a series of intense interviews. The client found the assessment very effective in helping them identify biases and cultural issues that were inhibiting their projects’ performance. As a result of the study, the organization has asked that Think implement the plans to gain control of the critical projects identified. The organization is now in the implementation phase of these initiatives, all will greatly improve project management effectiveness almost immediately.
